THE GHOST GUIDE
The Ghost is the Rolls-Royce for people who would rather not be noticed arriving. It has the same hand finished cabin, the same near silence and the same 6.75 litre V12 as the larger cars, but in a cleaner, plainer shape that looks at home outside an office in the City as well as a restaurant in Mayfair. Clients book it for a board dinner, a day of meetings or a guest who values privacy over spectacle.
It is also the easiest Rolls-Royce to use in central London. At around 5.5 metres long, it is noticeably shorter than the Phantom, so it turns into mews streets and tight hotel forecourts with less fuss. If you are still deciding between models, our Rolls-Royce hire in London guide compares the full range; this page is about the Ghost alone.
The rear doors are hinged at the back, so you step out facing the pavement rather than twisting out sideways. On recent cars the doors close at the touch of a button. The ride is the Ghost's real strength: Rolls-Royce's Planar suspension uses a camera system to read the road ahead and prepare for bumps, which makes a difference on London's patched streets and speed humps.
Depending on the car, you may find the Starlight Headliner, with fibre optic stars set into the roof lining, rear screens and on board Wi-Fi. The Ghost Extended adds 170 millimetres of rear legroom, and some Extended cars have reclining rear seats. Specifications vary from one Ghost to another, so tell the concierge if a particular feature matters and we will confirm in writing what your car has.
The Ghost seats up to four passengers, with two in the rear being the most comfortable arrangement. The boot holds around 500 litres, enough for two large suitcases and a cabin bag on most trips.
A Ghost at the kerb says the evening is taken seriously without making a show of it. We drop guests at The Connaught on Carlos Place, at The Ritz, where cars stop on Arlington Street, and around Berkeley Square for private members' clubs and restaurants. The chauffeur waits nearby and returns when you message. Our chauffeur in Mayfair guide covers the neighbourhood street by street.
For a roadshow or a run of client meetings, the Ghost keeps you comfortable and on time between stops. From Mayfair, the City is usually around 20 to 40 minutes and Canary Wharf around 30 to 50 minutes, depending on traffic. The chauffeur plans each drop and pickup point in advance and keeps the car close, so there is no hunting for a taxi between appointments. Firms booking regularly can set up a corporate account with monthly invoicing.
A Ghost makes a calm first impression for a guest landing at Heathrow or Farnborough. From Heathrow to Mayfair is usually around 40 to 70 minutes and from Farnborough around 60 to 90 minutes, depending on traffic. Because Rolls-Royce cars are priced by the hour, a Ghost works best when the arrival leads straight into a meeting, a lunch or an afternoon in town. For a transfer on its own, our fixed Heathrow chauffeur prices in the S-Class, V-Class or Range Rover are usually the better choice.
Here is how an eight-hour day might look for a visiting director. The chauffeur meets the flight at Heathrow at 9am and drives to the hotel in Mayfair to drop the luggage. At 11am the Ghost takes our guest to the first meeting in the City, waits, and moves on to a lunch near Bank. The afternoon includes a meeting in St James's, then back to the hotel by 5pm to change. Eight hours in all, from £1,400 plus VAT, with no meter running. Extra time is charged at the same hourly rate; our hourly chauffeur hire page explains longer days.
Choose the Ghost when you want a Rolls-Royce that feels private rather than ceremonial. The Rolls-Royce Phantom is the grander choice for black tie, and the Rolls-Royce Cullinan sits higher for country house venues and long drives out of town. For everyday executive travel, the Mercedes S-Class is quiet and comfortable at £90 an hour.

GHOST QUESTIONS
Ghost hire starts from £175 an hour, excluding VAT, with a three-hour minimum. Three hours start from £525 plus VAT, a four-hour evening from £700 plus VAT and an eight-hour day from £1,400 plus VAT. The chauffeur, fuel and waiting between stops are included, and the total is confirmed in writing before you book.
The Ghost is arranged on request, so availability depends on the date. Send us the day and times and the concierge will confirm what we can offer. You travel in a Rolls-Royce Ghost or similar, and if a Ghost is not free we will suggest the closest alternative, such as a Phantom or a Mercedes S-Class, before you commit.
The Ghost is the smaller, quieter looking saloon, around 5.5 metres long against roughly 5.8 metres for the Phantom. It suits business dinners and discreet arrivals. The Phantom is the formal flagship for galas, opera nights and weddings. Both start from £175 an hour, excluding VAT.
Up to four passengers, though most clients travel two in the rear. The boot is around 500 litres, which usually takes two large suitcases and a cabin bag. For more luggage, a Mercedes V-Class can follow with the bags.
Yes. A Ghost for an airport collection is booked by the hour, with the three-hour minimum, so it suits an arrival followed by a meeting or an evening out. For a straight transfer only, our fixed airport prices for the S-Class, V-Class and Range Rover usually work out better value.
You can ask, and we will tell you what is available for your date. Specifications differ from car to car, so we confirm the model and its features in writing when you book.
No. Every Ghost we arrange is driven by one of our own chauffeurs, who also looks after the route, the parking and the timings.
