WHAT YOU GET
THE V-CLASS GUIDE
Most luxury cars are built around one or two passengers in the back. The Mercedes V-Class is built around the whole party. It is the car we suggest when a family lands at Heathrow with a week of luggage, when four colleagues need to move between meetings together, or when grandparents, children and a pushchair all need to reach the same lunch on time.
You get the calm of a private car with the space of a small coach: one chauffeur, one fixed price and everyone arriving together. For many groups it also costs less than booking two saloons.
The rear cabin has individual leather seats rather than a bench, arranged so passengers can face one another and talk, which suits families and teams alike. Sliding doors on both sides make getting in easy at a narrow hotel entrance or a busy kerb, and the high roof means nobody has to fold themselves into a seat. Soft ambient lighting, climate control, still water and phone chargers are standard, and the car is cleaned before every journey.
A V-Class takes up to six passengers. As a guide it carries around six large cases, plus hand luggage, though the real answer depends on what you are bringing: golf bags, pushchairs, ski bags and shopping all change the picture. Tell us the number of people and bags when you book and we will confirm the right car, or suggest a second car or the Executive Sprinter if it would be a squeeze.
Airport runs are where the V-Class earns its place. Your flight is tracked, so the chauffeur adjusts to an early or late landing and meets you in arrivals with a name board, then helps with trolleys and loads the cases while you settle in. We cover every London airport and the private aviation terminals at Farnborough, Biggin Hill and Northolt. There is more detail on our Heathrow chauffeur page and the guide to all airport transfers.
Typical drive times from Mayfair, which vary with traffic and the time of day:
| FROM MAYFAIR TO | TYPICAL DRIVE |
|---|---|
| London City Airport | around 35 to 50 minutes |
| RAF Northolt | around 35 to 50 minutes |
| Heathrow | around 45 to 60 minutes |
| Luton | around 60 to 80 minutes |
| Farnborough Airport | around 60 to 80 minutes |
| Gatwick | around 70 to 90 minutes |
| Stansted | around 70 to 90 minutes |
For an early long haul departure we will suggest a pickup time that leaves room for the morning rush.
Booked by the hour, the V-Class becomes a base for the day. A family can spend a morning at the museums of South Kensington, lunch in Marylebone and an afternoon on Bond Street without hailing a single taxi, with shopping bags left safely in the car between stops. A business team can run a roadshow between Mayfair, the City and Canary Wharf, using the journey to prepare for the next meeting. The rate is £85 an hour with a three-hour minimum, and the chauffeur waits nearby rather than circling. Read more about chauffeur hire by the hour.
The V-Class also works well for days out of town, such as a trip to Windsor or a country house lunch, and for carrying guests to weddings, race days and concerts. See events and race days and wedding car hire for those occasions.
If there are one to three of you with modest luggage, the Mercedes S-Class is the quieter, more formal choice. From four passengers, or whenever luggage is heavy, the V-Class is usually right. For seven or eight people, the Executive Sprinter keeps the group together.
| Mercedes V-Class | Mercedes S-Class | Executive Sprinter | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Passengers | Up to 6 | Up to 4 | Up to 8 |
| Luggage (guide) | Around 6 large cases | 2 large cases | Room for everyone's luggage |
| Heathrow transfer | £190 | £195 | By the hour |
| By the hour | £85/hr, 3-hour minimum | £90/hr, 3-hour minimum | From £120/hr, 4-hour minimum |
Prices exclude VAT and luggage figures are a guide. For a fuller comparison including the Range Rover, read S-Class, V-Class or Range Rover, or browse the whole fleet. One worked example: a family of five flying out of Heathrow pays £190 for one V-Class, compared with £390 for two S-Class cars, before VAT.
